OVO Hydro Minibus & Coach Hire: Group Guide to Drop-Off, Timings and Getting Home
A sold-out night at the OVO Hydro is the easy part to get excited about. Getting 10, 30 or 70 people to Finnieston on time, and every one of them home again after the encore, is the part that needs a plan.
Minibus Hire in Glasgow, part of TravelsRoute, provides private minibus and coach hire with a professional driver for concerts, comedy and live events at the OVO Hydro, collecting from anywhere in Glasgow and the surrounding towns. If you already know your date, our OVO Hydro and SEC event transport page is the quickest way to get a quote.
OVO Hydro Essentials for Group Organisers
- Address: OVO Hydro, Scottish Event Campus, Glasgow G3 8YW
- Capacity: up to 14,300, so big shows bring heavy traffic around Finnieston and the Clydeside Expressway
- Drop-off and pick-up zone: free and staffed, west of the SEC Centre, reached from Stobcross Road
- When it opens: one hour before doors, with a maximum stay of 30 minutes
- Walk to the arena: about 3 minutes along a covered route through the SEC Centre
- Accessible shuttle: runs from the drop-off zone to within about 130 metres of the Hydro's south entrance
- Show times: the venue often confirms exact timings only 2 or 3 days before the event
Venue arrangements can change, so we check the latest guidance before every booking.
How the Drop-Off Zone Works for a Group
The free zone is built for quick set-downs and collections, not for waiting. With a 30-minute limit, a vehicle cannot stay there for the whole show, so your driver drops the group off, leaves, and comes back at the agreed collection time.
The venue does not publish separate rules for coaches, so for larger vehicles we confirm the most suitable legal set-down and pick-up point before the day. For most minibus groups, the drop-off zone is the simplest option.
A Show Night, Worked Backwards
A typical plan for an evening show with doors at 6:30 PM:
5:15 PM — Pickup from the city centre, a hotel or your meeting point
5:45 PM — Arrive at the drop-off zone, which opens an hour before doors
6:30 PM — Doors open, with time for bag checks, drinks and finding seats
8:30 PM — Headliner on stage
10:45 PM — Show ends, and the group walks to the agreed meeting point
11:05 PM — Vehicle departs once everyone is counted on board
Groups from Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire or the airport simply start earlier. Because show times are often confirmed late, we book around the expected schedule and adjust once the venue publishes the final timings.
Plan the Journey Home First
When 14,000 people leave at once, Stobcross Road, Finnieston and Exhibition Centre station all fill up within minutes. Before anyone goes inside, agree:
- One meeting point, the same for everyone
- One collection time, with 15 minutes of slack built in
- One group contact who has the driver's number
- Every drop-off on the way home
If you have several vehicles, give each one its own organiser and passenger list, so nobody ends up on the wrong coach in the dark. And do not leave it until the encore to decide where to meet.
Journey Times to the OVO Hydro
Approximate road times to the SEC, before event traffic:
- Glasgow city centre, Merchant City and the West End: 5 to 15 minutes
- Glasgow Airport: about 15 minutes
- Paisley and Renfrew: 15 to 20 minutes
- Clydebank: 15 to 20 minutes
- Bearsden and Milngavie: 15 to 25 minutes
- East Kilbride, Hamilton and Motherwell: 25 to 35 minutes
- Cumbernauld: around 30 minutes
- Glasgow Prestwick Airport: about 45 minutes
On big nights we add extra time for traffic on the M8 and the Clydeside Expressway. See all the areas we cover.
Hotel and Airport Groups
For visitors staying in Glasgow, a hotel shuttle keeps things simple: Hotel → OVO Hydro → Hotel. Hotels in Finnieston, the city centre and Merchant City are all a short drive from the SEC.
Flying in for a gig? A three-day trip might be Glasgow Airport → Hotel on arrival, Hotel → OVO Hydro → Hotel on show night and Hotel → Glasgow Airport to fly home, all on one booking. Tell us how much luggage is coming as well as how many passengers: 12 people with 12 suitcases need more space than 12 people heading to a concert. See our Glasgow Airport transfers.
Which Minibus or Coach for Your Hydro Group?
- Up to 8: 8-seat MPV
- 9 to 16: 9, 12 or 16-seat minibus
- 17 to 24: 24-seat minibus
- 25 to 33: 29, 30 or 33-seat midi coach
- 34 to 77: full-size coaches from 49 to 77 seats
- 78 or more: several vehicles, timed to arrive and leave together
A minibus suits groups travelling from one or two pickup points. A coach suits a single meeting point and one shared return. If passengers are spread across several towns or hotels, two smaller vehicles are often quicker than one coach on a long chain of pickups. Compare every size on our Glasgow fleet page.
Who Books Hydro Transport?
Companies entertaining clients or rewarding staff, often as Office → Restaurant → OVO Hydro → Hotel. See our corporate travel service.
University societies travelling as one group from campus, with one departure and one return.
Birthday groups, families and friends who would rather share one minibus than queue for taxis at 11pm. See our party transport.
Hotels and tour operators moving visitors who do not know Glasgow.
For 100 or more passengers, we run several coaches under one plan, each with its own pickup point, so everyone arrives together.
When the Whole SEC Is Busy
The Hydro shares the Scottish Event Campus with the SEC Centre and the SEC Armadillo, and all three can host events on the same night. That means more traffic, more taxis and a busier drop-off zone, so we check the full campus programme when planning your timings, not just the Hydro's.
Exhibition Centre station is a few minutes from Glasgow Central by train, but for a group that wants to stay together, door-to-door transport avoids splitting up on crowded platforms after the show. We also plan your route and vehicle around Glasgow's Low Emission Zone.
