Glasgow hosts some of the biggest event nights in Scotland — the OVO Hydro and Scottish Event Campus (SEC) in Finnieston, Hampden Park and Ibrox and Celtic Park on match days, and TRNSMT on Glasgow Green each summer. All of them share the same planning challenge: getting a group there and, more importantly, getting them home again afterwards.
The outward journey is usually the easy part
Arriving before an event is fairly predictable — agree a drop-off point and a time, and build in some allowance for city-centre traffic. The return journey is where most groups underestimate what's needed.
Plan the return before the event, not after
Events rarely finish exactly on schedule. Rather than trying to arrange a pickup once the show or match has ended, agree a realistic collection window in advance and share a mobile contact number so the driver can coordinate if plans shift.
- Confirm the venue's current drop-off and collection guidance — these change between events
- Agree an approximate finish time and a buffer either side of it
- Choose a meeting point that's realistic once a large crowd is leaving the same venue
Finnieston and the SEC campus
Finnieston sits closest to the OVO Hydro and SEC Centre, so it's often the most practical area for a pickup or drop-off point on an event night, rather than trying to get directly outside the venue itself.
Match days at Ibrox, Celtic Park and Hampden
Road closures and restricted parking around these three stadiums can vary fixture by fixture. Check current access guidance close to the date, and allow extra time for the crowd leaving the stadium before your collection.
TRNSMT and Glasgow Green
TRNSMT brings city-centre road closures for the festival weekend. A single, clearly agreed drop-off point — confirmed against the organiser's current travel guidance — works far better than assuming normal city-centre access will apply.
What transport doesn't include
Private group transport covers the journey, not the event itself — it doesn't include tickets, admission, or guaranteed access to a specific drop-off zone. Always check the event organiser's own guidance for the day.
