Airport Transfers

By Admin2 min read

Glasgow is unusually well served for a city its size, with two airports handling scheduled flights: Glasgow Airport in Paisley and Glasgow Prestwick Airport further south-west. They're not interchangeable, so it's worth knowing which one your journey actually involves before requesting a transfer.

Glasgow Airport (GLA)

Glasgow Airport sits around 8 miles west of the city centre, usually a short run via the M8. It has a single terminal building, which simplifies group collections compared with airports split across multiple terminals — but it also means the drop-off and pickup areas get busy at peak times, so a specific meeting point still matters.

Glasgow Prestwick Airport (PIK)

Prestwick is roughly 30 miles south-west of the city, used mainly by charter flights and a smaller number of scheduled low-cost routes. Because it's further out, build extra journey time into the plan rather than assuming Prestwick is "basically the same" as Glasgow Airport.

What to send when booking a transfer

  • Which airport — don't assume it's obvious from the flight; confirm GLA or PIK explicitly
  • Terminal, if relevant, and flight number
  • Full pickup address(es) across Glasgow or the surrounding area
  • Date and required arrival time for departures, or flight landing time for arrivals
  • Passenger count and luggage — including anything bulky like golf clubs, instruments or sports equipment
  • Whether you need the return leg booked at the same time

For departures: work backwards from check-in

Both airports recommend arriving a set number of hours before a flight. Build the road journey, any city-centre traffic, and the walk from drop-off to check-in into your requested pickup time — not just the flight time itself.

For arrivals: give a flight number, not just a time

Flight times shift. Providing the actual flight number lets the booking team and driver track genuine landing time rather than working from a schedule that may already be out of date by the day of travel.

Always check current official guidance

Airport layouts, terminal arrangements and access rules can change. Use Glasgow Airport's and Glasgow Prestwick Airport's own current guidance for check-in times and terminal information, and let the booking team know promptly if your flight details change.
